Do More 24, coming on Thursday, June 2, is a 24-hour fundraising effort organized by United Way of the National Capital Area that brings together nonprofit organizations (more than 600), companies and regular people committed to making a difference locally. This focused “movement” encourages donors to contribute to the causes and organizations closest to their hearts to help solve this region’s most pressing social challenges.

Surina Amin, LGSW - Outreach Coordinator, Project Wait No Longer
The Barker Adoption Foundation’s signature educational event, its Adoption and Foster Care Conference, is sought out annually by families, adopted persons, birth parents, professionals and students. This year, Barker held its 22nd Annual Conference, titled “Connected Lives: A Complex Privilege for the Family of Adoption, with over 275 attendees.  As expected, it was one of our best conferences to date.

The longest tenured employee at Barker, Beth Kirby, has retired, effective March 31, 2016, after 25 years of extraordinary service. Beth has served in many capacities, and her warmth and versatility are well known and greatly appreciated.

The Barker Adoption Foundation’s Project Wait No Longer just celebrated a huge milestone when we placed our 100th child who was waiting in the foster care system, into an adoptive family.  We have grown so much since our first placement in 2007 and it is hard to put into words what a milestone like this means for this “little program that could”.  The PWNL staff was thrilled to learn that they would reach this milestone by placing a sibling group of 4 just in time for them to spend Christmas with their new

Photo above is how Barker's Reception area now appears.  Photos below depict the flood damage across the office suite. As many of you have heard, Barker’s Bethesda offices were recently severely damaged by a freak flood that occurred when pipes, located several floors above Barker, burst, triggering the sprinkler system and unleashing tons of water into the Barker space below.
