This past Sunday, after a long, post-blizzard week, 70 members of the Barker community -- including many toddlers and young children -- attended Barker's Hispanic Heritage Celebration, held at Los Tios Grill in Alexandria, Virginia.
Saturday evening, March 5th, Barker is celebrating its 70th Anniversary with a benefit gala at The National Museum for Women in the Arts. The entire Barker community is invited to attend this festive event, “Celebrating a Lasting Legacy.”

People enjoy attending book groups for a variety of reasons: The opportunity to share and discuss issues raised in books with like-minded peers, the chance to socialize with others - and even for the food. Last week a group of 8 participants attended Barker’s Book Club and had a great time doing all three of the above!

This past weekend, Barker was proud to be the Gold Sponsor at the Adoption and Foster Care Expo held at the Carnegie Library in Washington, DC. This was an extremely successful collaborative event that drew over 200 attendees who were interested in learning more about the process of becoming adoptive or foster parents. The goal of the Adoption and Foster Care Expo is to provide an exclusive “one-stop shop” experience for prospective parents to interact with adoptees, adoption professionals and current foster and adoptive parents.

As many of you have heard, Barker’s Bethesda offices were recently severely damaged by a freak flood that occurred when pipes, located several floors above Barker, burst, triggering the sprinkler system and unleashing tons of water into the Barker space below.
