When thinking what our domestic infant team could do to help honor Adoption Month, we decided to shine some light on those who work silently and tirelessly behind the scenes – hospital staff. So we decided to deliver baskets of goodies for those who staff the hospitals, pregnancy centers, and clinics that we work with in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Maryland has officially enacted policies aimed at making the foster care system safer for foster youth who identify as LGBTQ. Many LGBTQ youth who enter the foster care system are subject to more trauma and violence because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. One of our very own PWNL Moms has been recognized as one of the best Adoptive Mom Blogs of 2016 by Healthline for her blog, Adoptive Black Mom.  Adoptive Black Mom chronicles her adoption journey from the searching process to her every day parenting struggles in an honest and relatable way and gives a voice to people of color involved in adoption. Adoptive Black Mom is a captivating and thoughtful account of what it is like to not only parent a child who has a history of trauma, but what it is like to do it as a single African American mother.

When Abby's adoption finalization hearing was scheduled for the same day as her first day of school, her entire class came to support her big day! Read the heart warming story of Abby, a 10 year old former foster youth with special needs, being able to share her momentous day with not only her family, but her friends and classmates as well. Abby had been living with her foster mom, Anne, for three years prior to being adopted into the family. "It doesn't get old, Abby is my eighth adoption, and I can honestly say that each one is unique and wonderful every time.
