All adoptive parents think about what it will be like to meet their child for the first time. What will he look like? What will she think? Will he want to sit and talk? Will she want to do something fun and distracting?

As potential parents we try to anticipate every possible outcome and be prepared for the needs that our child might have.

Regardless of how it happens, the day you meet your child may be one of the best or hardest of your life. Most adoptive families long for that immediate connection and many don’t experience it.

No matter how it happens, it will likely have little significance in the long-term.  As you get ready for this “first meeting” with your child, keep in mind that it is just one of many moments you will face together as parent and child.
