Event Description

This workshop was designed for adoptive parents, and registration is open to all families regardless of  whether Barker was a part of their adoption. It is important that every parent feel confident in his/her ability to take good care of his/her child's hair. You are invited to join other adoptive parents for a workshop that will teach you more about the techniques and products needed to care for African American/Black hair. This engaging and hands-on workshop will provide information about the differences between hair types and their associated care, and empower parents in their knowledge of how to style their child's hair. In addition, participants will learn about the role hair styling can play in fostering a child's self-esteem, and celebrating his/her unique heritage and culture.

Presenter: Dr. Elana Anderson, PhD in African Studies, Educator and Artist.
