Infertility & Adoption: Navigating the Complex Journey
This valuable workshop is for anyone working in the field of fertility or adoption and will provide deeper insight into the awareness and empathy that is needed to help people navigate this often difficult and emotional journey.
About the Presenter:
This presentation will be given by Barker's very own Varda Makovsky, LCSW-C, LICSW - who has extensive clinical experience working with families for whom the experience of infertility has been part of their journey to adoption.
Description of the Workshop:
Many (though not all) individuals and couples who are pursuing adoption as a way of building a family have already been through a very intense process pursuing infertility treatment. This experience is physically and emotionally painful, and involves significant grief and loss, and feelings of powerlessness. It is very important for adoption professionals working with prospective adoptive families to be mindful of the journey many of their clients have taken prior to pursuing adoption, to better understand where they are coming from, and how their previous experience may affect their feelings about and approach to the adoption process.
This three hour training will provide:
- A brief overview of the fertility treatment process
- An overview of the emotional journey, both individually and for couples, experienced during the infertility treatment process
- Understanding as to how experiences faced by clients who have experienced infertility may affect them during all aspects of the adoption process: pre-adoption, during the placement process and post-adoption.
The registration cost for the training is $35 and 3 CAT I CEU’s will be provided. We look forward to seeing many of you here! It promises to be a wonderful workshop.
