Event Description

During this all day workshop ethicist (and international, transracial adoptee) Nabina Liebow will explore a range of topics with families who are considering transracial adoption or families who are already parenting children of a different race then their own.  Attendees will be exposed to tools for thinking, talking, and “feeling” about race; will have the opportunity to “hear” the voice of transracial adoptees; will be pushed to examine their own racial perspectives; and will get some hands-on practice with thinking through how they might parent in difficult situations by engaging with real-life inspired scenarios.  Ultimately, attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the obligations they have, as white parents, to their children of color.

Presenter: Nabina Liebow, PhD, is an ethicist and transracial, international adoptee. She works at American University as the Director of the College of the Arts and Sciences Leadership and Ethical Development Program. Her academic research is focused on ethics and racism.
