Hours: 10:00am to 4:00pm
PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education) is a nationally-recognized training model used for families who are interested in adopting an older child from the foster care system. Given the mandatory remote work required due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all sessions are currently held online over four Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Families can learn about adoption from the foster care system and better understand the needs of children who are placed through Project Wait No Longer (PWNL). Training is a fantastic learning experience so you can better understand what your new child has been through and how to best meet their needs.
Many families use the training experience to confirm their commitment to adopting a child with a history of trauma. It also provides the opportunity to build relationships with other families adopting from the foster care system and relationships with PWNL staff. Two highlights from the training include hearing from a family who has adopted through PWNL and a presentation from PWNL's Placement Coordinator on the matching process.
Please Note: Completing all four PRIDE sessions is mandatory to receive a PRIDE training certificate. Makeup sessions for classes missed due to an unexpected emergency may be made available for an additional fee at the discretion of the trainer/program. These make-up sessions are not available for the first session of PRIDE. Please note that participants missing more than one session (for any reason) will be disenrolled from the class and required to complete the entire training again at a time that better fits their schedule. It is strongly recommended that registrants arrange their schedules to accommodate being present at each class session. For further questions about class and scheduling, please contact tmcleran [at] barkerfoundation.org (Taylor McLeran).
*Cancellation Policy: Registrations may be canceled up to 30 days before the start date of the registered session for a fee of $75. All fees are non-refundable within 30 days of the event.
