Session Description:
As we increasingly see people become comfortable enough to openly identify as non-binary, it is important that as social workers, service providers, and parents we proactively work to increase our competence in being respectful and knowledgeable of this population. During this training, our presenter Julian Harris will create a safe space to learn, explore and increase our knowledge in the following areas:
- What does it mean to be non-binary?
- Appropriate vs. inappropriate vocabulary
- How to be respectful and supportive of non-binary people
- Differences between gender identity and sexual orientation
- What is my role in supporting non-binary people?
- How can parents best support children who identify as non-binary
About our presenter:
Julian R. Harris, LICSW, LCSW-C is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, in private practice. He recognizes the powerful role that therapists have in helping clients empower themselves not only through evidence-based techniques but also through genuine care and concern. Julian uses a number of theoretical principles in his practice including elements of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
As a therapist of trans experience, he does a great deal of work providing affirming care for individuals who identify along the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and contributes to the profession of Social Work by conducting trauma-focused, gender-affirming care trainings for clinician's continuing education.
