Many children experience feelings of anxiety and worry, which can become more intense during stressful situations and times of uncertainty. If you're looking for ways to empower your child to navigate those feelings, Barker's five-day virtual program may be a good fit: "Managing Anxiety and Worry: Workshop for Children in 3rd to 7th Grade." The program starts on Monday, March 28, to April 1, 2022, from 5 to 6 PM ET.

More About The Program

Don't miss Barker's five-day virtual program: "Managing Anxiety and Worry: Workshop for Children in 3rd to 7th Grade," designed to help children learn how to identify anxiety and worry, how it functions in the mind & body, and learn tools and techniques to help manage symptoms when they arise.

The virtual program will start on Monday, March 28, and meet daily through Friday, April 1, 2022, from 5 to 6 PM ET. During the sessions, your child will discuss topics such as:

- What is anxiety?

- What are some signs of anxiety?

- What are some strategies for managing anxiety?

- How can we deal with worries?

The goal is to help children learn the tools they need to build resiliency!

Space is limited. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the program's facilitator, Missy Herendeen, via email at mherendeen [at] barkerfoundation.org or call our office at 301-664-9664.

Sessions

Each week Missy Herendeen, LMSW/LGSW Barker's adoption competent therapist, and registered yoga teacher will share movement-based fun strategies that can enhance an internal sense of security and normalize feelings that often are isolating.

Day 1 (Monday, March 28): What is Worry?

In this opening session, children will get to know one another and establish group norms, and utilize interactive videos to gain an understanding of "what is worry?"

Day 2 (Tuesday, March 29): Worry Affects Your Body

Day two begins with a recap of the first day and any insights children may have had. It will also introduce breathing techniques, video segments, and movement to establish mind-body connections.

Day 3 (Wednesday, March 30): Worry Affects Your Thinking

Day three builds on the impact of worry in our bodies and minds. Children will have time to create individualized goals--what they'd like to do, if not for worry getting in their way.

Day 4 (Thursday, March 31): Watch for Thoughtholes (thought distortions)!

In this session, children will learn about "Thoughtholes" --all the ways our minds can trick us into worrying--and how to overcome those sensations.

Day 5 (Friday, April 1): The 5Cs!

On the conclusion day, children will see success stories from our video series and have the opportunity to share their successes amongst the group. We will work on bringing all the tools we've learned (movement, breathing, and goal setting) and partner with the 5C's--a device to help "check-in" with ourselves to see if worry is running rampant!
