Event Description

This workshop will provide current and prospective adoptive parents with a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from an adult adoptee raised by a same-sex couple. Anthony Hynes, adult adoptee and author of the book “The Son with Two Moms,” will present reflections and memories from his childhood as the black son of two white mothers.  Topics to be discussed include:  Earliest recollections of being part of a non-traditional family; responding to questions from others; birth family response to having child raised by a same-sex couple; and the experience of being a transracial adoptee raised by two white mothers.

Presenter: Anthony Hynes, is the author of “The Son with Two Moms.” He serves on the board of Rainbow Families, which is devoted to promoting the rights of LBTQ families. He is currently a PhD student in Language, Literacy and Culture at the University of Maryland, where he received an MA degree in Applied Sociology, and wrote his thesis on "The Psychological Well Being of the Child Within the Same Sex Household."
