Last night was the first meeting of the Barker Book Club! A great group of adoptive parents and adopted adults joined Varda Makovsky, Barker’s Director of Family and Post Adoption Services for a lively discussion on the book “Ghosts of Sangju: A Memoir of Reconciliation.” The book, by first time author Soojung Jo, was rich in themes related to adoptive identity, transracial adoption, search and reunion, which assured a lively and interesting conversation. It was especially beneficial for adoptive parents to hear perspectives on the book from adopted adults, and vice-versa.
Join us for the next meeting of Barker Book Club, on November 18th at 7 PM, when we discuss the book “Ithaka: A Daughter’s Memoir of Being Found” by author Sarah Saffian. You can register directly on Barker’s website. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Barker’s Director of Family and Post-Adoption Services at 301-664-9664, or postadopt [at] barkerfoundation.org
