The Barker Foundation Annual Conference is only 10 days away! PWNL is hosting two sessions featuring experts that have experience working with youth in the foster care system and older child adoptions. This is a wonderful learning opportunity for families that have adopted older children, families interested in adopting older children or anyone who has an interested in foster care and adoption.

Chauncey Strong who is currently a foster care supervisor with Fairfax County Department of Family Services and an adopted person himself will be presenting; My Brother’s Keeper: The Importance of Sibling Connections. During this workshop he will explore the importance of maintaining sibling connections in a system that does not always make that process easy.

Jennifer Shaw who is a clinician that specializes in working with sexual abuse and trauma will be presenting: Too Much, Too Soon: Exploring the Impact of Childhood Sexual Abuse on Teenage Sexual Development. This topic is particularly important to our PWNL families as many of our children have experienced sexual abuse in their past.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about adoption and to meet other adoptive families!
