Our Vision, Your Impact
We need your help to build programs and support services for adopted infants, foster care and special needs children, and their adoptive families. The placement of significantly more children suffering from severe trauma and other physical and emotional conditions requires a wide range of mental health and education services to give children and their families their best chance of success. Barker aspires to provide these services desperately needed to adress the deep trauma of adoption, and to build strong, resilient children and supportive families.
Barker Adoption Foundation's Vision:
- To be the leader in child-centered adoption. Our primary client is the child who has no voice, often no advocate. All we do is centered on acting in the child's best interest.
- We advocate for adoption of children wit specialized needs including, but are not limited to, physical and mental manifestations of trauma related to abuse and neglect, prenatal alcohol and other drug exposure, autism, neuro-atypical, and other developmental disorders, as well as all older children and siblings groups in foster care.
- To provide comprehensive services to make adoptions a success, including adoption competent, lifelong post-adoption training and support, and mental health services.
Sponsorship funds will be used to support our adoption teams that work with families interested in adopting, our training and event programs including our Annual Conference, and our mental health services, including group, family, and individual counseling, to address trauma and behavioral issues that interfere with families trying to stay together and thrive. For example, we need to raise $180,000 to provide adoption competent therapy to our families and children for our current waitlisted clients. Without that support, families and children will remain at risk and in pain, waiting for the help they need to move forward.

Services & Support
Sponsor ongoing counseling support for adult adoptees, adopted children, and their families with a Barker adoption competent therapist. Sessions help individuals, and families receive expert support with ongoing issues resulting from separation, feelings of abandonment, and trauma. Currently, families and individuals seeking critical support must be placed on a waitlist due to a lack of counselors. Your support can help Barker hire additional adoption competent therapists to meet their needs.

Reunion Services
Many adoptees struggle with not knowing their birth families and not having any history or knowledge of birth family health conditions or place of origin, extended families, or the circumstances of their adoption. This lack of information can lead to depression, attachment issues, and feelings of grief and loss. Your sponsorship can help us provide much-needed support for adoptees searching for a connection with their roots to begin to heal.
