All adoption begins with an attachment trauma. The broken bond between a biological mother and her child has a long-lasting impact on the attachments of that child and their foster or adoptive family. How can we promote and build healthy attachment between an infant and their foster or adoptive family? How do we correct behavior in a young child, in a way that shame and guilt are not magnified, so that attachment can continue to deepen? How do we parent teens who are beginning to develop attachment but also pulling away in developmentally appropriate independence? During this training, Dr. Christina Reese will be taking us on a journey through the childhood of an adopted child with attachment trauma, visiting each age and stage to share interventions that will build and protect attachment in the child who struggles to trust.
